The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, a fourth-generation SUV, is finally making its European debut after being on sale in markets like Japan, North America, and Australia since 2021. Mitsubishi had previously announced its departure from Europe in 2020 before retracting this decision, leading to the introduction of rebadged Renault models. After long anticipation, the PHEV variant arrives in Europe in autumn 2024, featuring only a plug-in hybrid version and a mid-cycle update. Styling remains largely unchanged from its previous iterations, with dimensions of 4.72 m in length, 1.75 m in height, and 1.86 m in width. It retains a modern aesthetic, highlighted by the “Dynamic Shield” front design and rugged look with protective elements. Inside, the dashboard is similar to the Japanese model, equipped with a new 12.3″ central touchscreen and traditional physical climate controls for better usability. Unfortunately, the European version accommodates only five passengers—contrary to its seven-passenger capability in other markets—due to differing market demands and positioning. The boot offers 495 liters of space, extendable to 1,422 liters with the seats folded. Performance-wise, the Outlander PHEV boasts a four-cylinder 2.4L engine paired with two electric motors, providing a combined output of 302 hp and impressive electric-only range of up to 86 km. CO2 emissions are low, and Mitsubishi aims to attract buyers with an 8-year warranty. Production begins in late 2024 for a March 2025 rollout, with pricing details expected in November 2024.
